Combustible Dust Whitepaper

Combustible Dust: OSHA has updated its National Emphasis Program. What this means for Flame Resistant Clothing.

On January 27, 2023, OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration) updated its Combustible Dust (CD) National Emphasis Program (NEP),1 changing its approach to how it locates and inspects facilities where CD is a potential hazard. OSHA revised the program due to a continuing high volume of CD incident reports and violations, despite the Administration’s earlier efforts to raise awareness of CD hazards and improve regulatory compliance. The revised NEP provides new guidelines for its Certified Safety and Health Officials (CSHOs) who inspect facilities and contains the strongest language yet about the mandatory use of flame-resistant (FR) clothing as personal protective equipment (PPE).
